The objectives of this program are to introduce
the students to the study of tropical biodiversity/natural history,
tropical ecology, and conservation biology.
This semester abroad program includes 35 hours
of formal lectures in the classroom for each of the 4 core courses
(1- Costa Rican Natural History; 2- Tropical Ecology; 3- Biological
Diversity and Conservation; and 4- Spanish).
The program also includes a rigorous field section
in tropical ecology and conservation biology. This unique program
will give the students the opportunity to perform field experiments
in situ in many different tropical habitats within Costa Rica.
All courses, except Spanish, will be taught in
English. The Spanish course will be intensive and combined with
the family home-stay, will provide the students with the language
proficiency to communicate effectively.
